Our Descendants of Marie Ferree Reunion 2014 got off to a great start on Wednesday night with a "meet and greet" in the Welcome Center. Guests checked in, picked up reunion packets, visited with Madame Ferree, viewed videos of past reunions and shopped our Ferree store. Each guest was ask to help with a special Ferree family dispersion project by placing a pin on a United States map to indicate their present home location. |
Our "Cousin Circles" day on Thursday focused on family history and genealogy. During the morning session we were favored with Huguenot hymns and learned about their history. We also learned about Amish life and customs and heard about Ferree family migration from Pennsylvania. The circle discussion groups provided opportunity to share history and research with others in the same line of descent. A buffet lunch was served at noon in the hotel dining room. The afternoon session began with a presentation on research done in Europe where the Ferree family had lived and worked. There was also a presentation pertaining to an Irish side of the family and a presentation on genealogical DNA research. |

The day began with a ceremony honoring the memory of Daniel & Marie Warenbauer Ferree and their six children. A candle was lit for each child by a descendant from that line. It was a beautiful and touching moment |

Friday morning we boarded buses for a trip to the newly renovated Lancanster Historical Society facility. While there we had opportunity to view the LeFevre Bible, walk through the museum galleries, and given a tour of Wheatland, home of James Buchanan, the 15th President of the United States and the only President from Pennsylvania. |

On Friday afternoon it was "all aboard" for a ride on the Strasburg Railroad. A reserved coach took us through some of the beautiful countryside once owned by the Ferree family. We were given a warm welcome aboard and as we went along the engineer pointed out different sites pertaining to the Ferree family. Following our train ride we visited the Rail Road Museum of Pennsylvania where we learned about Pennsylvania's rich railroad heritage. |

Saturday was a fun day at Cherry Crest Farm. There were over fifty activities for all ages including the "Amazing Maize Maze". We had our own private tent area where we gathered for a delicious catered "corn field picnic" lunch.
Cherry Crest Farm is located on land once owned by Cornelius Ferree. His house can still be seen on the property. |
